Project Description
Solar Songket is an environmentally and socially woven, Play-Work-Blended Lifestyle resort inspired by the local culture, namely the Songket - an important fabric in the Indonesian culture. It takes time to create and is never completed alone. It is a vital representation of collaboration, a correlation to the users of Solar Songket, that is the millennial generation, and those who don’t work by confined hours and spaces – the future trajectory. One quarter of the world will be millennials, and will constitute up to 50% of the work force by 2020. Research shows that work-life balanced resorts are rising fast and effective worldwide, as seen in Indonesia, Thailand, Vietnam.
Solar Songket is slightly different, it is constituted of an interwoven eco-communitas experience that can be fundamentally described as the following 3 key elements: Play hard – in search for meaningful discoveries. Work hard - yet, not confined by standard frameworks. Life appreciation – travels that benefit environment, health, and have social impacts.
The Solar Songket motif is configured in accordance with the site conditions, such as the prevailing wind, the sun path, the terrain, and the sea. Every faceted roof exposed to the sun is photovoltaic, with irrigation and ventilation systems embedded within the structures. Albeit hidden, such circular system composes the intricate engineering which resembles the motif of Solar Songket [please see exploded axo diagram].
The co-working-living model at Solar Songket is essentially an environmentally interwoven operation with local crafting workshops and traditional culinary exchanges as secondary programs for daily necessities. Solar Songket reinforces relationships between the vacationers and the local neighborhoods, through the inextricably environmental integration of architecture and landscape that harness energy for its electrical demands, and grey water recycling for both the resort’s and surrounding neighborhoods’ daily usage. The resort also welcomes the enthusiastic working holiday-youngsters to mingle holistically, and external guests to participate in events and workshops. Solar Songket is undoubtedly inspired by local culture, but it also sets a pioneering trajectory for the future of Eco-Tourism.
