Project Description
In response to the economic challenges in Fair Haven, leveraging the communal atmosphere of the existing library, and recognizing its potential as a vibrant cultural hub, this project presents a practical community solution and an engaging architectural experience.
Inspired by captivating light reflections that transform mundane spaces, the design celebrates and extends this reflective language. The circulation mirrors this language, utilizing playful massing with upright and rotated house shapes to absorb and reflect light purposefully. Spillage of large spaces and integration of fragmented programs within these massings create diverse yet interconnected experiences.
The integration of the performance and analogue, seen in light-manipulating surfaces and circulation pathways, extends to building components like ductwork, columns, and bioswales. Their performance-driven forms also express movement and fluctuations. The collage of materials and light patterns injects vibrancy into the community, avoiding overly elaborate architecture that could risk negative gentrification.
