Project Description
A hybrid program (Fulfillment Center X Recreational Complex) is proposed along the Ohio River in Cincinnati. Adjacent to local professional sports facilities and regional distribution networks, this project takes the form of three buildings framing a reconfigurable yard.
Large pods—enabled by autonomous movement systems—dock into crystalline figures on the building periphery. These pods shape the space of the yard for various small-scale athletic activities. The pods disperse themselves into the city for various sporting events, carrying products and displays; artifacts of the fulfillment process in the urban core.
Inside the buildings, the crystalline docks are aggregates of dense product shelving and large figural rooms for the exchange of people and products. Long ramps puncture the crystals allowing for good retrieval via “pickers” and drones while allowing access to upper levels for spectators.
