Project Description
Simulation is the most effective method of emergency preparation. In reproducing high-stress situations, this is best achieved through immersive environments, both virtual and physical. This Center for Emergency Preparedness synthesizes the media and film industry’s role in propagating images of disaster response, as well as the artificial architectures of emergency event simulation, into a facility to train civilian and government emergency responders. The campus is a stage set complete with faux facades, mimicking New York neighborhoods and infrastructures. Sound stages simultaneously facilitate the training of civilian actors to react to real emergencies, and the production of informational training videos and high budget disaster films.
