Site Section at Low Tide. Rockaway, Queens, NYC. Fall 2017 with Joel Sanders and Leslie Gill. Studio Partner: Varoon Kelekar M.Arch II’19. The Jamaica Bay Coastal Research Station and Ferry Terminal responds to sea-level rise and recommended managed retreat. Designed as stone jetties along Jamaica Bay’s edge, the proposal facilitates the return of a saltmarsh ecosystem. As the population retreats the project is partially dismantled. Only the stone jetties will remain in 100 years’ time. Here, architecture becomes a catalyst for ecosystems management, coastal resilience, and collaboration among humans and nonhumans.
