Required for M.Arch I second-year students. No waivers allowed.
Transforming design from concept to built reality requires mastering the business, legal, financial, and ethical frameworks that govern architectural practice. This course examines current and emerging practice models in the United States, evaluating shifting roles across the AEC industry and their impact on project delivery, communities, and professional careers.
Through lectures, guest speakers, and discussion sessions, students analyze firm finance and key performance indicators, fee estimation, scope definition, Owner/Architect agreements, project delivery methods, risk mitigation, and the distinction between cost and value. Assignments directly bridge theory and practice by applying these operational, legal, and financial tools to projects developed concurrently in the Systems Integration (SI) course.
