Project Description
Marfa offers the dramatic experience of retreating from the noisy city life to the desert. Located in the desert, the living village engages each artist with the landscape. Core programmatic walls in each unit provide privacy and frame views. Artists and visitors come together under one roof at the communal village located adjacent to the Chinati Foundation. Circulation from the living village to this communal building is a journey across the landscape, the orientation shifts and becomes about interaction and learning from the work of others. Outdoor work and exhibition spaces act as a spatial buffer for the studio space. Immersed in the landscape and community, the artist’s life at Marfa becomes anisotropic.
