Project Description

Books, as an informational medium, are fading from primacy. Instead, this library celebrates their physicality. It creates three separate environments rooted in the needs of Bushwick locals and tourists alike. First, a dense, regularized system of single story classroom spaces houses the educational needs of the community. Second, a reading room exists between alternating perforated bridges of scattered bookshelves, desks, and study tables. Louver systems enclose the building on either side and above to filter natural light. Finally, the site terminates with a glass cafe with roof deck above to welcome all who pass by and invite visitors to the adjacent reading room.
