Carlos Zedillo Velasco

Carlos has a Bachelor´s degree in Art and Architecture by Yale University and in 2010 received a Master’s degree in Architecture from the same institution. His career has been dedicated to promoting collaborative design processes. In 2017, he founded PienZa Sostenible a nonprofit organization that explores contemporary Mexican conditions in relation to the United Nations 2030 Sustainable Development Goals. As a result of the earthquakes of September 2017, he promoted the “Reconstruir MX” initiative, bringing together a Carlos Zedillo Velasco Founder and CEO Studio ZV & PienZa Sostenible large group of architects and construction professionals to offer knowledge and techniques in the reconstruction of affected homes in high-risk areas. To date, PienZa Sostenible has raised more than 60 million pesos and granted more than 140 houses to affected families. In 2018, Zedillo created Studio ZV, which is made up of a group of professionals with vast experience focused on developing urban planning projects, architectural design, construction, construction management, as well as the design of projects. Carlos Zedillo has an intense academic activity. He has been invited to impart courses and conferences at the universities of Michigan, Columbia, Yale, Pennsylvania, Princeton and Harvard, as well as at the Universidad Anáhuac and the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (UNAM), SCI - Arc (Southern California Institute of Architecture ) and the University of CENTRO in Mexico City. He has made more than 40 editorial publications and participated in different exhibitions on urban planning, housing and resilience issues such as the “9th World Urban Forum (WOF9)”, “From the territory to the inhabitant” and “Conference on housing and Sustainable Urban Development Habitat III”, among others. In addition, he has been distinguished with various awards and recognitions, such as “The Dubai International Award for Best Practice” in 2018, the Concrete Award for Industry Leaders “Recognition of Legacy” in 2017, to name a few. He previously directed the Research Center for Sustainable Development at Mexico’s National Housing Fund for Workers (often referred to by its acronym in Spanish, INFONAVIT).
