Justin Beal
Justin Beal is an artist and writer based in New York. His work as a sculptor has been reviewed in The New York Times, The New Yorker, Artforum, Frieze, Art in America and The Los Angeles Times and is included in the permanent collections of the Albright-Knox Museum, the Hammer Museum and the Museum of Contemporary Art Los Angeles.
Beal’s first book, Sandfuture, was published by MIT Press in September 2021 and received widespread acclaim from outlets including The Financial Times, The Guardian, Architectural Digest, Curbed, Pin-Up, Metropolis, Art Review, and the Detroit Free Press. His recent writing has appeared in Log, and The Architect’s Newspaper and Harper’s.
Beal received a BA in Architecture and Design from Yale and an MFA from the University of California. He is also a graduate of the Skowhegan School of Sculpture and Painting and the Whitney Independent Study Program.
In addition to writing, Beal has curated recent exhibitions at the Storefront for Art & Architecture and the Yale School of Architecture and regularly teaches a seminar on the art and architecture of New York City at the Macaulay Honors College at Hunter College.
