The cloud of knowledge
The future society will be a society of knowledge. However this knowledge can hardly be split into clearly defined fields.
Innovations develop within interspaces, within indistinctness, within the overlapping and hybridising. Questions regarding the future will be decided within transitional fields situated between technology, biology and ethics that are the central themes of the project.
Mutations of form, penetrations, deformations, simultaneities, breakdowns and variabilities have an effect on architecture. The resulting architecture is characterised by the interactions, the fusion and mutation of different entities constituting a new shape.
The project does not consider itself as an exclusive temple for the intellectual bourgeoisie but as a public place providing access to the knowledge of our age.
Stimulating a direct and active use, it is not only a museum site but also a venue in town. The architecture hybridises the typology of a museum with the typology of an urban leisure space.
Thinking about water
The theme of the work in the spring semester will be water. Water as upcoming important resource for mankind to survive on the other hand water as a very dangerous power. Not only water for drinking but also to generate energy and the information about the state of aggregation of the medium water.
Site and program
Around this we have to create a building which is definitively not a museum in an old sense but rather an information building which serves as a structure for knowledge.
The site will be the island of Confluences in Lyon (France) a peninsula where two rivers come together (Rhône and Saône). The program is to combine a big presentation space for a permanent show and seven exhibition-media-spaces to show the aggregate state of the water.
The task is to design this building/structure/media event in a very special method: a feedback method between drawing, model and computer program.
The goal is the presentation of this information building in plans and sections, models (diagram model, concept model, site model 1:500, presentation model 1:200).
An aerial drone view animation as well as a computer program how to conceptually construct the building robotically.
The building will contain exhibition spaces, logistics (workshop and storage), lecture room, reception rooms, restaurants, shop and book shop and the big entrance hall.
